Hamburg to Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, 1872

The saga of another very long and trying voyage on Ship Eugenie from Germany to Hobart, Tasmania, Australia in 1872.  This voyage had major problems, one being a gigolo for a shipping company agent and near mutiny by the passengers.  It all ended in Hobart Town with the passengers stuck on ship for more weeks.  A major maritime investigation was held but the final "report" has "disappeared".  The troubles aboard ship and the trials while in Hobart harbor are told in a fascinating series of newspaper articles in the Hobart Mercury.  The Hobart Mercury Gallery (see above link)  shows actual copies of these articles.

There are several links above of immigrant families coming to Australia in 1872 on the Eugenie.
