Carl Haack, Hamburg > NYC, June 5, 1866

Carl HAACK, born 22 September 1831, (probably in PERLEBERG, Brandenburg, Prussia) arrived on the ship EUGENIE, in New York City on June 5, 1866 from Hamburg. With him was his wife Henrietta Karoline nee GLOBKE (born 29 December 1837 in Pommern, Prussia) and his mother-in-law, Anna Globke (age 56). The family was headed for Minnesota to join Anna's brother, Otto, who was in northeast Iowa.

Carl had to stop in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA for a few months to earn some money as a stonemason so that the family could continue the trip. Carl and Henrietta eventually settled near Hokah, Houston County Minnesota, USA (the most southeastern tip of that state). They bought a 4-acre farm and built a house where they raised their six children, Amelia, Louise, Mary, William, Charles and Gustave. Carl supported the family by working as a stonemason.

Henrietta died on the farm on February 3, 1894, a victim of a horrible accident. Carl, ill with consumption, died February 11, 1894. They are buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Hokah, Minnesota.
