Ship Eugenie was purchased from Robert M. Sloman & Co. in 1897 by shipping interests in Sandefjord, Norway.  She was used in commercial shipping in the Baltic and North Seas, and in the North American trade.  Eugenie ran aground off Stockholm in 1906 and was salvaged.  Her "afterlife" remains a mystery, possibly surviving until World War II, when it may have been destroyed by the British on a raid at Narvik, Norway.

In this site we explore her earliest papers with a translation of the "Temporary Proof of Nationality" issued in 1899, and found in the Norsk Sjofartsmuseum in Oslo, Norway.  We then examine three documents found in the maritime museum at Sandefjord, Norway, which cover a period from 1904 until late 1906 and include details of her demise off Stockholm..

There is a gallery of two drawings of Ship Eugenie, also discovered in the Norsk Sjofartsmuseum.  One is of Eugenie under the Norwegian flag, and the other under the Union flag.  Both quick loading and hgh resolution versions are available. (In one high resolution version, one can read the name "Eugenie" on a pennant flying from the top of the middle mast.)

The last gallery is of four maps and charts of the area of Eugenie's grounding.  Some are a bit slow loading but have amazing detail.

All of these high resolution pictures require you to click the picture and download it to your hard disk for later photo processing and printing.  It is suggested that you NOT try printing these pictures using your browser print capabilities.
